6 Common myths about Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes are the most usual form of diabetes and as with anything in life there are misconceptions.
These are some misconceptions:
1. You cannot die from Diabetes- NOT TRUE
Diabetes is a serious, chronic disease. People do not die from diabetes but from cardiovascular-related episodes, such as a heart attack or stroke. Fortunately, Type 2 diabetes can be controlled with proper medications and lifestyle changes.
2.Being overweight means, you will definitely get type 2 Diabetes- NOT TRUE
Carrying excess weight is a serious risk factor, but there are other factors that put you at an increased risk. Having a family history of diabetes, having high blood pressure, or being sedentary are just some of these other factors.
3.Insulin resistance causes you to be overweight- NOT TRUE
Being overweight causes insulin resistance. In obese individuals, adipose tissue releases increased amounts of non-esterified fatty acids, glycerol, hormones, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and other factors that engage in the development of insulin resistance.
4.Type 2 Diabetes are caused because you are only eating too much sugar- A LITTLE TRUE
A diet high in calories from any source, including sugar contributes to weight gain and weight gain increase your risk of type 2 diabetes.
5.While on medication, you can eat what you want- NOT TRUE
Taking medication does not allow a person to eat anything. Regularly eating unhealthy food or oversized portions may prevent medications form doing its job.
6.You must lose lots of weight for your type 2 diabetes to improve
Losing just 7% of your body weight can offer significant health benefits
