I met someone today that asked me what I did and after I explained what I did, which is not always an easy task she asked me- " How do I know I have type 2 diabetes?"
I realized that even though there is huge amounts of information about diabetes people don't know what diabetes is.
Type 2 diabetes is a condition that keeps the body from using insulin the way it should. People with type 2 diabetes have insulin resistance or are on the road to getting insulin resistance.
Type 2 diabetes used to be called adult-onset diabetes and mostly affected adults, but now type 2 diabetes also affects kids and teens, mainly because of continued poor lifestyle choices over time.
Type 2 is the most common type of diabetes. There are about 4.5 million people in the South Africa with type T2D and the numbers are climbing every year.
If you have 2 or more of the following symptoms, its worth checking if you have diabetes
Being very thirsty
Always Fatigue/feeling worn out
Peeing a lot
Blurry vision
Carrying weight around your belly
Being cranky/mood swings
Tingling or numbness in your hands or feet
Wounds that don't heal
Yeast infections that keep coming back
Feeling hungry
Feeling like something sweet after meals
Getting infections often
The good news is - if you find out you have diabetes early on, there is hope of reversing type 2 diabetes in the early stages of the disease!
