There are two main types of diabetes, known as "Type 1 Diabetes" and "Type 2 Diabetes".
These two conditions are two different and separate conditions
Type 1 diabetes
In people living with type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakes the body’s own healthy cells for foreign invaders. The body’s immune system is responsible for fighting off foreign invaders, such as harmful viruses and bacteria.
The immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells produced by the pancreas. After these beta cells are destroyed, the body is unable to produce insulin. Insulin must be then injected into the body.
Type 2 diabetes
People with type 2 diabetes have insulin resistance. The body still produces insulin, but it is unable to use insulin effectively. There are reasons why insulin resistance occur like genetic and environmental factors and one major factor is excess weight. When you develop type 2 diabetes, your pancreas will try to compensate by producing more insulin. Because your body is unable to effectively use insulin, glucose will accumulate in your bloodstream and the high insulin levels can cause damage over the long run.
"Life is not over if you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes- you still have a chance to prevent your diabetes from progressing"
